Special Projects – Senior Project Manager

As a Special Projects Senior Project Manager you will lead & drive a portfolio lower value ‘Special Projects’ or declared high value/high risk/sensitive projects. These scopes may include the ‘cradle to grave’ project management of customer owned ‘High Voltage’ electrical networks, Primary iDNO substations and/or associated Grid connections.

As a Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the collective performance of the programme of works within your charge. This will be terms of safety, technical, quality, contract, commercial & risk control. As a Special Projects Senior Project Manager, you have suitable and sufficient, knowledge, training & experience to undertake the roles, where required, of his/her colleague Project Managers and/or Tendering Engineers.

All Special Projects resources may, at times, be required to be hybrid roles in terms of tendering, design development and/or delivery. This subject to their knowledge and understanding. The works area may be within the Midlands region however may also be within the wider United Kingdom. You will be accountable for project change control which shall include raising respective quotations.

The Special Projects Senior Project Manager you shall be accountable to the HVSS Special Projects Manager and shall assist him/her in the when delegated to do so.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the HVSS Special Projects Manager in the Strategical objectives of HVSS.
  • Represent HVSS in a professional and articulate manner, at all times, to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all Special Projects being managed, or indirectly managed, are delivered in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Proactively manage Risk & Change.
  • Achieve Project financial goals and any yearly agreed reasonable appraisal targets.
  • Undertake & record Projects specific Monthly SHEQ Tours.
  • Maintain Project specific documentation in line with the company’s BMS.
  • Where assigned, & where required, act as technical & behavioural mentors to any
    nominated Special Project resources.
  • Undertake & record Projects specific Quarterly SHEQ tours with Project Managers.
  • Maintain a Continual Professional development (CPD) strategy.

Experience & Qualities

Essential:

  • Proven Leader & team player.
  • Management & Leadership Experience of managing project/programme budgets & resources.
  • Extensive Management & Leadership Experience of managing complex high value (> £5M) projects, budgets & to direct, indirect & specialist resources from within MEICA/Utility
    Technical Construction Environment.
  • NVQ Level 4 qualification in engineering. construction and/or management, and/or, equivalent knowledge, training and experience.
  • 5 Years’ Experience in technically complex electrical, or mechanical, customer and/or T&D networks.
  • An excellent understanding of projects which would be classified as “notifiable” under the Construction, Design & Management Regulations 2015.
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Sales or Estimating experience of complex high voltage customer electrical networks.
  • Design development experience of complex high voltage customer electrical networks.
  • Project Management & delivery experience of complex high voltage customer electrical networks.
  • Understanding of Control, Protection and Automation schemes.
  • Proven Experience in delivering construction schemes under formal Construction Contracts.
  • APM/ PMI/ Prince Project Management certification, or equal equivalent, or working toward. Corporate Project Management accreditations may be considered as equivalent.
  • Competence with Word/Excel/Power point and possess suitable and sufficient cost & finance soft skills.
  • Microsoft Project Competent & fully conversant with this project planning software it’s task relationships and planning strategies.
  • SSTS/SMSTS.
  • Working toward TWC/TWS if requested to do so by the company.
  • EUSR/CSCS/ECS.
  • First Aid at Work Certificate.

Desirable:

  • MIET or working toward.
  • Experience in working within a technical construction sale and estimating team.
  • An understanding of construction projects that fall within the classification of “notifiable” under the Construction, Design & Management Regulations 2015.
  • Knowledge &/or experience of working with ‘Trimble’ or equivalent.
  • Project Management experience.
